This isn't a promised "feature." Being an entirely separate version of the game for an entirely new platform, it's an entirely separate matter. I also gather that he's taken his time with it like everything else. I gather that Luke announced at some point that he was undertaking doing a Mac port as a pet project.
Many people are anticipating this thing getting finalized, not the least of whom are the highly creative and talented modders we have, and we are all waiting patiently. First version dropped around the first of the year, third a couple of months ago. There is a new version of the game in beta with major improvements. He has never abandoned the game but is slow with updates.
Banished is a side project for the developer.
